Serhii V. Kalaharda

Soldier Serhiy Kalaharda was killed on May 18, 2022, near the village of Pytomnyk in the Kharkiv region. In a battle with Russian occupiers, he received fatal explosive and shrapnel wounds. On June 4, the defender would have turned 34 years old. Serhiy was a native of the village of Ilarionove in the Dnipropetrovsk region. In childhood, he loved to mold with plasticine, was interested in electrical engineering. In 2003, he graduated from the 9th grade of Ilarioniv Secondary School. In 2007, he received the qualification of a technician-mechanic at the Dnipropetrovsk Industrial Technical School. In 2011, he graduated from the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine with a degree in "Metallurgical Equipment". In civilian life, he worked as a fitter-repairman at the pumping station of KPC LLC "Interpipe". Colleagues remember him as a loyal friend and a true professional. Outside of work, he did repairs in his own home, built plans for the future. He was fond of mining, video games, and loved to spend his free time with family and friends. In the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion, the man joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend and liberate his homeland from enemies. He served in the separate presidential brigade named after Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, holding the position of a shooter-sanitarian. "Sincere, purposeful, hardworking. He was a man of his word," noted the deceased's brother Oleksandr. Serhiy was buried at the Bohdanivskyi cemetery in his native village. At home, his parents and brother were waiting for him. Posthumously, the warrior was awarded the Order "For Courage" III degree.
