Serhii V. Onishchuk

Senior Lieutenant Serhii Onishchuk was killed on June 24, 2023, during an enemy artillery barrage near the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. The military man was considered missing for some time. His relatives and comrades-in-arms believed until the end that he was in captivity. Serhii was 38 years old. He was born in the village of Bilyn in Volyn. He studied at the Dnipropetrovsk National University of Railway Transport named after Academician V. Lazaryan, where he obtained the qualification of a mechanical engineer. Since 2007, he has been working at the Kovel passenger car depot. He started his career as a mechanic, then became a foreman, and for over 10 years he was a master. On February 25, 2022, the man was mobilized. For a year, he served in the security company of the Kovel District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support. After that, he received an order to defend Ukraine on the front lines. He was the commander of a platoon of the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. "This is a person who could be relied upon. He was genuine and reliable. Serhii was respected by everyone for his responsibility, dedication, and kindness. He knew his job well and willingly shared his experience with his colleagues," said Igor Lekhnyak, the deputy head of the Kovel passenger car depot. Serhii is survived by his mother Nadiya, sister Oksana, brother Dmytro, wife Iryna, and son Oleksandr.
