Serhii V. Tisnyi

Sergeant Serhii Tisnyi was killed on December 14, 2023 in a battle on the left bank of the Dnipro River, near the village of Krynky in the Kherson region. The occupiers carried out massive shelling of the positions of the Ukrainian defenders, and an enemy shell hit near Serhii. The severe injuries he sustained did not give him a chance to survive. The defender was 48 years old. Serhii was born in the village of Yalanets in the Vinnytsia region. In the family of three children, Serhii was the youngest. His older sister Lidiia said that her brother grew up remarkably independent. He learned everything on his own and was able to do handiwork. Serhii's relatives noticed that since childhood, he was able to implement his ideas in life, and they often listened to the young man because his creative outlook yielded results in everything. In 1991, Serhii graduated from the local school and entered the Olhopil Vocational School, where he obtained the profession of an electrician. He then served his military service in military unit 30028. In 1994, he was demobilized and returned to his native land. He began working on a farm. Later, he decided to see the world and went abroad to work in construction. He spent a significant part of his life in different countries. After the events of the Revolution of Dignity and the beginning of the ATO, Serhii decided to join the ranks of the Ukrainian defenders. He ended up in the 101st separate brigade of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was the senior sergeant of a platoon. In 2017, Serhii returned to civilian life again. For some time he worked in the capital on construction. He dreamed of settling there, near his older sister and nephew. But later he returned to Yalanets to take care of his elderly mother. "My brother often came to visit us in Kyiv. He paid a lot of attention to my son. They were always interested in each other. They went for walks together, walked the dog, and Serhii liked to tell about his adventures abroad. He became a kind of mentor for my son," Lidiia said. On February 24, 2022, Serhii told her that he planned to report for service to his native 101st brigade. "He was preparing to defend the state and our family in the front lines of the defenders and did not doubt for a minute," Lidiia recalled. But in early March 2022, Sergeant Tisnyi was appointed commander of a platoon of the security unit of one of the air force brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Later, together with the unit, he went to the combined rifle brigade of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. September 2023 found Sergeant Tisnyi at the front line. Our fighters then managed to break through the Russian defense and begin to form a bridgehead for a counteroffensive on the left bank of the Dnipro. The defender was buried on December 24, 2023 in his native village of Yalanets. At home, Serhii was awaited by his mother and older sister with her family. For personal courage, Serhii Tisnyi was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree.
