- 55-year-old military serviceman Sergei Selnytskyi was killed in action on June 22, 2022, in battles for Lysychansk in his native Luhansk region. The defender was saving a comrade when he was hit by a bullet from an enemy sniper. In a few weeks, the hero was supposed to have a birthday. Sergei was born in Luhansk. He lived there all his life, finished school and a mining vocational school. He created a family and raised two sons. For some time, he was engaged in entrepreneurship with his wife - they traded vegetables and fruits. And then he went to the Toshkivska mine, where he worked for 20 years. When the Russian-Ukrainian war began in 2014, he moved to Lysychansk with his family. There he completed his mining pension experience. The elder son went to war. In 2016, the man joined the 24th separate assault battalion Aidar and went to fight for his native Luhansk region. He took part in the ATO/OOS. The same year, Sergei's younger son also joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Three years later, Sergei was discharged from the army and returned to Lysychansk. However, all this time he knew that the war was not over. So, when the full-scale Russian invasion began, the defender took up arms again and went to defend his native land. Together with his younger son, they joined the 111th separate brigade of the TRO of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Luhansk region. Sergei felt at home in the army. He often called his relatives, said he was sad, shared plans and dreams. He very much hoped that finally, after 8 years of living without a home, they would have their own housing. He dreamed that it would be a house by the Azov Sea. In the yard, he planned to plant a flower garden, full of different flowers, invite comrades to rest by the sea. Everything he dreamed of, I will definitely bring to life. Sergei was a kind man, a loving husband, an incredible father who remains a good example for his sons. Heroes do not die - they just go to heaven. Heroes do not die, but we, the living, miss them so much, his wife Iryna told journalists, with whom Sergei lived in marriage for 33 years. The defender was buried in the Alley of Heroes in Chervonograd, Lviv region. Sergei left behind a wife and two sons.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
