Taras P. Shymon

22-year-old senior soldier Taras Shymon was killed on December 19, 2022, while performing his duties in the area of the village of Fedorivka in the Donetsk region. He received fatal injuries as a result of a direct hit by an enemy kamikaze drone on an artillery installation. Taras was born in the village of Ohiivka, Zhytomyr region. He studied at the Ohiivska school until the 9th grade. He then enrolled in the Zhytomyr Agrotechnical College, specializing in "Electrification and Information Systems". After completing his studies, he worked. In 2020, he received a summons and decided to join the contract service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In his free time, he loved to create something with his own hands. At the time of the full-scale invasion, Taras served in the 26th Artillery Brigade named after Major General Roman Dashkevych. He was the commander of a self-propelled artillery unit. From the first days of the invasion, he continued to defend Ukraine from the occupiers. He fought in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. "Taras was a very good person. Despite being at war, he always smiled, no matter what happened. He always helped everyone who turned to him," said the widow of the fallen Nadiya. The artilleryman was buried in his native village. At home, he was awaited by his parents, two brothers, his wife, and daughter.
