- Soldier Vadym Kalaur was killed on April 22, 2022, in a battle with occupiers in the area of the village of Novotoshkivske in Luhansk region. An enemy tank advanced towards the positions of Ukrainian defenders. When the distance was about 20 meters, Vadym took a "Javelin" and confronted it. Occupiers opened machine gun fire, as a result of which the fighter was wounded in the neck, lungs, and shoulder. At that time, a shell exploded near him, adding more shrapnel wounds. His comrades managed to evacuate him to a medic. However, they failed to save the warrior. Five days before this, he turned 31 years old. Vadym was born in the city of Rivne. In his childhood, he moved with his parents to the city of Kostopil, Rivne region. He stu at school No. 6 there. Then he graduated from Kostopil Building and Technological College, obtaining the profession of a carpenter, CNC machine operator. He worked as a carpenter. He could cook well. After marrying in 2015, he moved with his family to Lutsk in Volyn. During the full-scale war, the man defended Ukraine as part of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Cossack Hetman Kostiantyn Hordienko. He was a senior rifleman. "Vadym was good, honest, fair, always with a smile on his face, loved to joke. He was ready to help selflessly. He had golden hands, tried to do everything, as he himself said, perfectly and independently. He was a caring, loving husband and father. He always helped me in everything, spent a lot of time with his son. Already from childhood, he taught him how to use different tools, tried to instill a love of work. Vadym went to war so that his son would grow up under a peaceful sky in a free, independent country. He gave his life with faith that Ukraine would win and become even better than it was. Vadym was, is, and will be a Hero!" said the widow of the deceased, Ivanna. "Vadym is remembered as a positive and life-loving young man who loved to work and strived to be successful in life. Neither he nor his parents, wife, and colleagues could have imagined that at the beginning of the 21st century, he would have to confront the hated Russian occupiers and heroically depart to heaven, becoming an unquestionable example for all of us. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned to turn back time and adjust space. But we know for sure: Heroes do not die, leaving behind an unforgettable memory. Vadym will remain in the hearts and souls of those who knew him, always young and full of strength. Glory to the Hero - a faithful son of Ukraine!" said officials from Kostopil City Council. The defender was buried at the "Nove" cemetery in Kostopil. At home, he was awaited by his parents, sister, wife, and son. Posthumously, Vadym Kalaur was awarded the Medal "For the Defense of the Motherland."Memory Platform 'Memorial'
