Valentyn V. Yanchenko (Dok)

46-year-old junior sergeant Valentyn Yanchenko (call sign Doc) was killed on August 13, 2023 in the area of the village of Klishchiyivka in the Donetsk region. According to his relatives, during the performance of a combat mission, he refused to surrender to the occupiers and was shot. Valentyn was born in Sumy. He lived with his family in the village of Severynivka. He obtained the profession of a mechanic at the Khotyn Vocational and Technical School. However, he was engaged in farming all his life. He loved the land, always helped his fellow villagers, who valued him very much for this. In February 2023, the man was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 92nd separate assault brigade named after the Koshovy Otaman Ivan Sirko. He underwent training and took the position of a combat medic. "While serving near Kharkiv and Bakhmut, he saved the lives of his comrades-in-arms during the performance of combat missions. He saved the life of his commander, pulling him out of the battlefield. He had friendly relations with his comrades-in-arms, he said that they were like his own brothers. He was twice concussed, received shrapnel wounds, but he never complained, and always said: "Everything will be okay." He was awarded the medal of Ivan Sirko, he was pleased that he was promoted to the rank of junior sergeant. He courageously and bravely fulfilled his duty as a citizen of Ukraine until the last minute of his life," wrote the sister of the deceased Marharyta Yanchenko. Valentyn was buried in the village of Severynivka. He left behind his parents, wife, two children, a loving family, friends and comrades-in-arms.
