- Master Sergeant Valeriy Yaroshchuk was killed in action in the early hours of the full-scale invasion of Russian occupiers on February 24, 2022. The enemy struck with missiles at the Joint Forces Operation's (JFO) combined command post in Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region. The government communications hub was destroyed. Two Ukrainian servicemen were killed, and two more were injured. The 46-year-old service member Valeriy Yaroshchuk was considered missing for two months. Valeriy was born in Polonne, Khmelnytskyi region. He graduated from the Bar Automobile and Road Technical School. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing. The man served in the 10th territorial government communications node of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection. Since 2016, he had repeatedly been involved in carrying out tasks in the areas of the Anti-Terrorist Operation/Joint Forces Operation in Luhansk and Donetsk regions. As a result of his service, he was awarded the "For Impeccable Service" and "For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation" medals by the command. "My husband was my support and pride. He was always cheerful, caring, and an example for others. Everyone loved and respected him," said his wife, Svetlana. The serviceman was buried in his native city in Khmelnytskyi region. Valeriy is survived by his wife, son, and daughter. Posthumously, Valeriy Yaroshchuk was awarded the Order of "Courage" III degree.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
