- Paratrooper, Junior Sergeant Vasyl Khomchyn (call sign Wild, Vaska) died on September 6, 2023 during an assault near the village of Verbove in the Zaporizhia region. The soldier received fatal injuries during enemy artillery shelling. In a month, on October 7, he would have turned 40 years old. Vasyl was a native of the village of Zhalybory, Ivano-Frankivsk region. He graduated from the College of Electronic Devices of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. He lived in Ivano-Frankivsk. He worked as a window system installer. In his free time, he loved fishing, hiking in the mountains, traveling, picking mushrooms, and cooking new delicious dishes. In 2014-2015, he participated in the ATO as part of the 80th Airborne Brigade. In 2015, he was awarded the badges "For the Defense of Donetsk Airport" and "For Military Valor". During the full-scale war, Vasyl, having combat experience, returned to the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In January 2023, he underwent retraining at the British Armed Forces base. Then he went to the front line as part of the 82nd Separate Airborne Assault Brigade, where he held the position of a platoon commander. "My beloved was not only the best man, son and brother in the world, but also very kind and attentive even to strangers, always helping those in need. He had great authority among the soldiers of the unit in which he served. He carried out his duty with great responsibility and dedication, defending his native country until his last breath," said Viktoria Khomchyn. The warrior was buried in the Demyaniv Laz tract in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Vasyl is survived by his father, brother and wife. Posthumously, Junior Sergeant Vasyl Khomchyn was awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree and the badge "For Honor and Valor".Memory Platform 'Memorial'
