Vasyl D. Shtohryn

56-year-old Vasyl Shtohrun (call sign Tankist) was killed on February 29, 2024 while performing a combat mission near the village of Ivanivske in the Donetsk region. In the battle, the warrior was wounded in both legs, and his comrades tried to evacuate him when the enemy struck with air-to-ground missiles. Vasyl was born in the town of Bohorodchany in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. He received his professional education at the Drohobych Vocational College. He worked abroad. Recently, he was a master of well drilling. He loved literature and poetry. During the full-scale war, he defended the country as part of the 710th Brigade of the State Special Transport Service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. He was an assistant machine gunner in the assault company. "Dad will forever remain a defender for me. Despite the fact that he is not by my side, I feel his protection and love even from the other world. I am infinitely grateful to him for my life and everything he has done for our family and Ukraine. I will never forget his sincere smile and the last greeting on my birthday. We still can't believe it. Dad lives in our hearts!" - wrote his daughter Khrystyna. The defender was buried in his native town. Vasyl is survived by his wife Liubov, daughter Khrystyna, son Dmytro, son-in-law Oleksandr, grandson Roman, sisters, and a brother. On November 1, 2024, a memorial plaque in honor of the defender was installed on the facade of the school where he studied.
