Vasyl E. Hodovanets

Sergeant Vasyl Hodovanets was killed on December 19, 2022, while repelling an enemy assault near the settlement of Pidhorodne in the Donetsk region. The defender was 27 years old. Vasyl was from the village of Zbyni, Zakarpattia region. He graduated from the Svalyava Technical College, where he obtained a degree in electrical engineering. In civilian life, he worked as a laborer, with his last job being at a hotel complex. He was married and very much wanted children. He dreamed of a life of comfort and safety. During the full-scale Russian invasion, the man fought for his country in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade. He participated in battles near Kherson and Bakhmut. He was wounded multiple times, but always returned to his comrades and went back into battle. "A very good person who always came to help. Vasyl honorably and with dignity fulfilled his duty. He participated in battles, not afraid to look death in the eye each time," said his sister Alina Hodovanets. The warrior was buried in his native village. Vasyl is survived by his father, sister, wife, and daughter, who was born after the death of her father.
