Vasyl H. Halias

Born on December 14, 1967, in the village of Sayinka, Chernivtsi district, Vinnytsia region. Graduated from the secondary school (now an educational complex) of the village of Sayinka. In the 1980s, he served in the Armed Forces of the USSR. Participated in combat operations on the territory of the Republic of Afghanistan. Was awarded the medal "For Courage." Worked at the water utility, then as a driver at an agricultural enterprise. On January 29, 2015, he was mobilized as a volunteer into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Served in the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit field post V2970, city of Artemivsk (since 2016 - Bakhmut), Donetsk region). Since 2015, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. On August 19, 2015, around 11:00, Sergeant Vasyl Halyas was killed near the city of Popasna, Luhansk region, as a result of a mine explosion of the "KRAZ" vehicle he was in. He is buried in the cemetery of the village of Sayinka, Chernivtsi district, Vinnytsia region.
