Vasyl H. Melnychuk

29-year-old Senior Sergeant Vasyl Melnychuk (call sign Lisnik) died on May 20, 2024 near the village of Georgiyivka in the Donetsk region. While carrying out a combat mission, he received fatal injuries during an enemy mortar attack. Vasyl was born in the village of Poliske, Rivne region. He studied to become a forester at the Berezne Forestry Technical College, but did not complete his studies and went into military service. In 2020, he got married and moved to the village of Velykyi Oleksyn. In peacetime, he worked as a construction worker. With the start of the full-scale invasion, in March 2022, the man took up arms to defend the Motherland from the occupiers. He fought in the ranks of the 46th Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was the senior sergeant of the company. For his combat achievements, Vasyl Melnychuk was awarded the Orders of Courage of the III and II degrees (the second one posthumously). "The best husband, father and son... A piece of our soul," wrote the widow of the fallen. The hero was buried in the village of Malyi Oleksyn in the Rivne region. Vasyl is survived by his mother Liubov Vitaliivna, brothers Ivan and Oleksandr, wife Kateryna and daughter Zhasmin.
