Vasyl M. Chernietsov (Cherik)

Junior Sergeant Vasyl Chernietsov (call sign Cherik) was killed on August 28, 2023 in the battle for the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. The defender received fatal injuries during an enemy mortar attack. He would have turned 37 years old on October 6. Vasyl was born in the village of Petropavlivka, Kherson region. He obtained a secondary specialized education. He was engaged in agriculture in his native village. During the full-scale war, after escaping from the occupied Kherson region, the man immediately joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He became a fighter of the 77th separate airmobile brigade. He held the position of commander of the airmobile unit. He took part in the defense of the Donetsk region. "A loving husband and father. Courageous, brave and purposeful. A true patriot of his country," said the wife of the deceased Tetiana. "A brave warrior, a faithful comrade, devoted to the military oath. He believed in a better future for his country," added his friends. The paratrooper was buried at the Berkovets cemetery in Kyiv. At home, Vasyl was awaited by his wife and two children.
