Vasyl O. Kondratenko

Born on December 20, 1987, in the city of Shostka, Sumy region. In 2003, he graduated from the 9th grade of general education school No. 7 in Shostka, and in 2006, he graduated from Vocational School No. 19 in Shostka, obtaining the profession of painter, plasterer, and tiler. On November 30, 2006, he was enlisted for military service under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From November 30, 2006, to September 14, 2007, he served as a rifleman in the security company, from September 14, 2007, to February 29, 2008, he was the chief of the power station of the engineering-airfield platoon of the airfield maintenance company of the airfield technical support battalion, and from February 29, 2008, to November 30, 2009, he served as a driver of the automotive platoon of the material support company of the airfield technical support battalion of the 203rd training aviation brigade of the Kharkiv University of the Air Force named after Ivan Kozhedub of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A4104 - city of Chuhuiv, Kharkiv region). On November 30, 2009, he was discharged from military service to the reserve due to the expiration of the contract. From March 16, 2010, he served under contract as a rifleman-assistant grenade launcher in the 2nd airborne platoon of the 1st airborne company of the 13th separate airborne battalion of the 95th separate airborne brigade of the High Mobility Airborne Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A1910, city of Zhytomyr). From September 4 to 19, 2010, he participated in the international military exercises "Rapid Trident 2010," which took place at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Ground Forces Academy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A4150 - village of Starychi, Yavoriv district, Lviv region). Since April 23, 2014, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation in eastern Ukraine. On August 17, 2014, soldier Kondratenko was killed by a gunshot wound to the neck, which he received during the assault on a checkpoint near the city of Yasynuvata, Donetsk region. On August 21, 2014, he was buried at the Lazarivske cemetery in Shostka. On August 29, 2014, at a regular meeting of the executive committee of the Shostka City Council, a decision was made to award Kondratenko Vasyl Oleksiyovych the Honorary Badge of the Executive Committee of the Shostka City Council (posthumously). In 2014, a memorial plaque was installed in the city of Shostka on the facade of the building (Deputatsky Lane, 19), where Vasyl Kondratenko lived. On February 16, 2015, memorial plaques were installed in the city of Shostka on the facade of general education school No. 7 (Matrosova Street, 1) and Vocational School No. 19 (Voronezh Street, 38), where Vasyl Kondratenko studied.
