Vasyl O. Popov (Khirurh)

Soldier Vasyl Popov (call sign Surgeon) was killed on March 21, 2023 during the defense against the occupants in the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. On March 10, the defender turned 35 years old. Vasyl was from the village of Irzhavets, Chernihiv region. In 2005, he graduated from the local secondary school. In 2007-2008, he served in the military. Then he worked at STOV "Irzhavets'ke". The man joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine on May 21, 2022. He held the position of gunner in the 23rd separate special purpose battalion (military unit A4438). "Sensitive. A very good person, loved by all his relatives, godparents and friends. We miss him very much," said the deceased's sister Oksana. Vasyl was buried in his native village. He is survived by his mother, sister, wife, other relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.
