Vasyl O. Zaichuk

Vasyl Oleksandrovych Zaychuk was born on December 5, 1989, in the village of Verkhnіy Studenyi, Khust district, Zakarpattia region. On May 18, 2022, Vasyl Zaychuk was called up for military service in the ranks of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine as part of mobilization. He approached his official duties diligently and responsibly. He completed assigned tasks on time and with quality, demonstrating reasonable initiative. On November 23, 2022, Vasyl Zaychuk was enrolled in the lists of the 105th Border Guard Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine for the position of 2nd category border service inspector - grenade launcher. On May 13, 2023, Russian occupiers struck the place of concentration of reserves of the 5th border post of the 2nd border command in the area of the village of Mhy, Novhorod-Siverskyi district, Chernihiv region, using Shahed-131/132 type drones. Junior Sergeant Vasyl Zaychuk died on the spot from his injuries. For personal courage and selfless actions demonstrated in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and loyalty to the military oath, Junior Sergeant Vasyl Oleksandrovych Zaychuk was posthumously awarded the "Defender of the Fatherland" medal.
