Vasyl P. Nizhenskyi

Born on January 24, 1988, in the village of Berestivets, Uman district, Cherkasy region. In 2005, he graduated from the general education school of the village of Berestivets, and in 2008 - from the electromechanical department of the Talyankiv State Agrarian Technical School of the Uman State Agrarian University (now the Talyankiv Agrarian Technical College of the Uman National Horticultural University - village of Talyanki, Talniv district, Cherkasy region). Since 2008, he served under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His last position was the head of the telegraphic secret communication apparatus of the information and telecommunications center of the communication node and radio-technical support of the Uman airbase of the 110th aviation command of the Air Command "Center" of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A2614, city of Uman, Cherkasy region). On November 19, 2016, he was assigned to the 72nd separate mechanized brigade of the Operational Command "North" of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A2167 (field post V0849), city of Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region) as a shooter-assistant grenade launcher. Since February 2017, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. He was involved in battles in the industrial zone of the city of Avdiivka, Donetsk region. Call sign "Gentle." On April 20, 2017, the observation point of the Ukrainian military in the industrial zone of the city of Avdiivka, Donetsk region, was shelled by the enemy with tanks and mortars. One of the tank shells hit the dugout where the Ukrainian soldiers were located. As a result of the explosion, Senior Sergeant Vasyl Nizhensky suffered a severe shrapnel wound and died. Soldier Oleksandr Kiriyenko also died with him. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Berestivets, Uman district, Cherkasy region.
