- Senior Sergeant Vasyl Pyrohov (call sign Amur) was killed in action on June 13, 2022, during an artillery shelling in the region of the village of Mazanivka in Donetsk Oblast. The defender was 33 years old. Vasyl was born in the village of Ivankivtsi in Vinnytsia Oblast. In his childhood, he moved with his family to the city of Koziatyn in Vinnytsia Oblast. In 2005, he graduated from Koziatyn School No. 5 and entered Koziatyn Higher Professional Railway College. He obtained a profession as a track work master. At the age of 18, he went into the army for contractual military service, serving as a mortarman in the Zhytomyr region. After serving in the army, he worked for about 10 years in the workshop of the Koziatyn meatpacking plant. Then he went abroad to work. In January 2022, Vasyl returned home and was supposed to go again on February 28. However, on February 24, 2022, a full-scale war began. Vasyl immediately went to the recruiting office, joined the ranks of the 120th battalion of the 173rd separate territorial defense brigade. He was the chief sergeant of the mortar battery. "I am the рідні sister of the best brother in the world. Having a ticket abroad in her hands, he went to the recruiting office and enlisted as a volunteer. He dreamed that after the end of the war, he would definitely take his parents on vacation to Egypt, but fate did not allow it. We are all proud of you, Our Hero! In his civil life, he was a kind and sincere person, the best son for his parents, the best brother to us, and a caring and loving father for his daughter," his sister Kateryna said. "He was truthful and very tidy. He had better order in everything than some women. He was very sociable, loved truth, and was not afraid of any heavy or dirty work. He wanted to have a decent salary, but only wanted to earn it honestly," his mother Natalia said. The defender was buried in his native village. Vasyl is survived by his parents, sisters Olha and Kateryna, and his daughter Darynka. Senior Sergeant Vasyl Pyrohov is posthumously awarded the Order of Courage III degree. A street in the city of Koziatyn, where he lived, is named after Vasyl Pyrohov.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
