Vasyl V. Shchurko

Soldier Vasyl Shchurko was killed on May 7, 2024, the day after his 47th birthday, as a result of a strike by an enemy UAV near the village of Torske in the Donetsk region. Vasyl was a native of the village of Shumyna in the Lviv region. He worked as a 3rd class track fitter at the Sambir track machine station for 3.5 years, repairing the subgrade. In his free time, he loved to go mushroom picking and enjoyed long walks in the forest. He also regularly attended church. He was very fond of his daughter Liubov, his sisters, and his mother. He was divorced. During the full-scale war, the man held the position of a rigger in the supply platoon of military unit A3719. According to his sister Nadiia, before his death, Vasyl shielded two young comrades-in-arms, but they, unfortunately, could not be saved either. "He was a capable, persistent, and disciplined employee. He was respected in the team, an attentive and caring person," his colleagues added. The defender left behind a daughter, mother, and sisters.
