Vasyl V. Vasylenko (Svat)

Soldier Vasyl Vasylenko (call sign Svat) was killed on October 14, 2022, while performing a combat mission in the area of the village of Davydiv Brid in the Kherson region. The fighter was 47 years old. Vasyl was born in the village of Kryvachyntsi in the Khmelnytskyi region. He studied at the local school and graduated from the Volochysk vocational and technical school. He served his mandatory military service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He lived in the city of Volochysk in the Khmelnytskyi region. He worked at the "OKKO" gas station in the settlement of Viityvtse, and later became a driver at LLC "Agrobusiness." In recent years, he was a private entrepreneur. During the full-scale war, Vasyl joined the 86th battalion of the 106th separate territorial defense brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He participated in the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian army in the Kharkiv region, fighting near Balakliia and Kupiansk. After a short leave, he continued his service in Kherson region. "Even in 2014, Vasyl wanted to defend Ukraine, but he did not pass due to health reasons. At the beginning of the full-scale war, on February 25, 2022, he voluntarily joined the territorial defense forces to protect his family and his homeland. Vasyl considered this his duty," said representatives of the Volochysk community. "Vasyl was a good family man, a loving and caring husband, and the best father. We were truly a happy family. Vasyl had golden hands; he could do everything himself and loved nature very much. We really loved to travel as a family. It's a pity we spent so little time together. The damned war brought grief to our home, taking away a dear person from us... Reliable, kind, sincere, empathetic, positive, always smiling, and optimistic — this is all about Vasyl. This is how he was, how his friends knew him. His death is an extremely heavy loss for all of us. We miss him very much... There is an unspeakable sadness, pain, tears, and many bright memories," said the widow of the fallen, Oksana. The defender was buried in the city of Volochysk. Vasyl is survived by his mother, sister, wife, son, and daughter. Vasyl Vasylenko was posthumously awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of the Volochysk City Territorial Community." His portrait is displayed on the Alley of Honorary Citizens.
