Viktor A. Melnyk (Melia)

Born on June 27, 1990, in the village of Svitlychne, Varva district, Chernihiv region. In 2005, he graduated from the 9th grade of the general education school in the village of Svitlychne, and in 2007 - from the general education school in the village of Dashchenky, Varva district. From 2008 to 2009, he served in the military in military unit 3004 of the Eastern Territorial Command of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (city of Donetsk). After completing his service, he worked as a controller at food warehouses in the Limited Liability Company "Fozzi-Food" (city of Kyiv). On March 11, 2015, he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the Pryluky-Varva Combined City Military Commissariat of Chernihiv region. He underwent training at the Yavoriv military training ground in the Yavoriv district of Lviv region, where he received the military specialty of a sniper. He served as a sniper in the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A1736 (field post V4533), city of Kirovohrad (now Kropyvnytskyi)). Since the spring of 2015, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. Call sign "Melya." On December 4, 2015, Senior Soldier Viktor Melnyk was killed by a gunshot wound to the head during shelling of the brigade's positions near the urban-type settlement of Zaitseve, Horlivka city council (now Bakhmut district) of Donetsk region. Soldier Yevhen Krykunov was killed alongside him. On December 8, 2015, he was buried in the cemetery of the village of Svitlychne, Varva district, Chernihiv region.
