- Master Sergeant Viktor Valko (call sign Veres) was killed on October 17, 2023, during a Russian missile attack on Donetsk region. He sustained fatal injuries while performing military duties in Sloviansk. Viktor was 50 years old. He was born in the village of Remchytsi, Rivne region. After graduating from the 9th grade of the local secondary school, he enrolled in the Rivne Automotive Technical School, specializing in "Maintenance and Repair of Automobiles and Engines". In 2011, he graduated from the Military College of Non-Commissioned Officers of the Land Forces Academy, majoring in "Organization of Military Transportation and Management in Automotive Transport". He found time for fishing and mushroom picking. For over 20 years, he dedicated his life to serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During this time, he was repeatedly awarded certificates for diligence, professionalism, and conscientious performance of official duties. He held the rank of Master Sergeant and was a material support sergeant of the operational-tactical group "Lyman" of the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade. In August 2023, he received a certificate "For diligence, reasonable initiative, and conscientious performance of official duties during the Russian-Ukrainian war for the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine". "Dad was a cheerful and lively person. From the first days of the war, he volunteered to go to the front... I am proud of our hero, his indomitability and patriotism," said his daughter Kateryna Valko. Viktor was buried in his native village.
