- 47-year-old senior sergeant Vitaliy Kalenskyi (call sign Kalyna) died on April 28, 2023, in battles for Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. He came under enemy artillery fire and received fatal injuries. Vitaliy was from the city of Korosten in the Zhytomyr region. In his childhood, he played basketball. He was interested in history and knew it well. After school, he served in the military, then graduated from the Nemishaiv Agrarian Professional College. In peacetime, he worked as a tax inspector. In 2014-2015, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation as part of the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade, defending the Donetsk Airport, the village of Pisky, and the city of Debaltseve. With the start of the full-scale war, the man immediately went to the military enlistment office to return to service. He fought in the ranks of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, holding the position of a grenadier. For his service, the military was awarded the following awards: "Veteran of War", "For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation", "Badge of Honor", "For the Defense of Ukraine", "For Courage in Battle", and the Order of Courage of the III degree (posthumously). "A faithful son of the Motherland, the best husband and father. Always collected. He was a role model for his comrades-in-arms, able to organize and unite the team. He had a great sense of humor. Responsible, sincere, courageous, and brave," his wife Lyudmyla described the warrior. Vitaliy was buried in his hometown. The defender left behind his parents, wife, and daughter.
