- Soldier Volodymyr Makhitka (call sign Mekha) was killed on January 19, 2024 in a battle with Russian invaders near the city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. The warrior was 44 years old. Volodymyr was born and lived in the village of Khuhra, Sumy region. He graduated from the local school. Then he obtained the profession of a tractor driver at the Okhtyrka Vocational and Technical School. He served his military service. In peacetime, he worked at the Khuhryansky forestry. He dedicated his free time to sports and family. When the full-scale war began, the man tried several times to get into the army to go to the front. Later, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in a separate combined assault squad of the PRTCK and SP "Odin". He was a shooter. "He went through all the hell of the war in all the hot areas and was killed in one of them. He was killed defending us and our country from Russian aggressors. He was killed heroically at 'zero'. On that last sortie, he should not have gone, say his comrades-in-arms. He went not with his own, because there were not enough fighters there. Although he had the opportunity to refuse. Everyone refused, because they knew it was death, and he went and knew what he was going into. He never refused anyone there, his comrades-in-arms told about my father. Dad always said he wouldn't hide as long as young guys were dying. He said he wanted to look people in the eye after the war, not walk with his head down. He was a conscientious person and a true warrior!" - wrote the daughter of the fallen Alina. The warrior was buried in his native village. Volodymyr left behind his parents, four children, a granddaughter, other relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
