Since the spring of 2014, he has defended the eastern border of Ukraine, and in October 2014 he defended the Donetsk Airport. "He was a man with a capital letter," says the deceased soldier's friend Valerii. "He was one of the commanders who defended the Donetsk Airport - they were called 'cyborgs'. And he was also a simple person and at the same time the pride of our nation. If there were more like him, everything would be different, and the world would be different." In 2022, Volodymyr Savytskyi returned to the front lines, to the ranks of the 46th Separate Airmobile Brigade, where he was a company commander. He was killed on September 6, 2022 during an artillery barrage while performing a combat mission. On October 12, 2022, he was buried at the Smolyanskyi Military Cemetery in Zhytomyr.
