Volodymyr L. Sverdun (Mekhanik)

29-year-old junior sergeant Volodymyr Sverdun (call sign Mekhanik) was killed on March 27, 2023 on the outskirts of the village of Novopil in the Donetsk region. During an enemy mortar attack on the positions of Ukrainian defenders, the soldier received shrapnel wounds. Volodymyr was born in the village of Mala Oleksandrivka, Kherson region. He obtained the profession of a mechanic at the Kherson Polytechnic Professional College No. 2. He settled in Zaporizhzhia. He worked at the Zaporizhstal plant. In 2014-2017, he served under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, participated in the ATO in Donbas. On the first day of the full-scale war, on February 24, 2022, the man again took up the defense of Ukraine. He joined the ranks of the 110th separate brigade of the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At first, he held the position of senior sergeant of the counter-sabotage company. He took part in the defense of the Zaporizhia region. In December, he was transferred to the position of a machine gunner of the 116th battalion of the 110th brigade of the TRO and went to the Donetsk region. "Vova was a very good and kind person. He always tried to help his relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms. He loved Ukraine and went as a volunteer to defend the Motherland," said the deceased's girlfriend Oksana. "Vova was a kind, brave and very good person," added his niece Kira. Volodymyr was buried in his native village. The warrior left behind a son, parents, a sister, two brothers and a girlfriend.
