Volodymyr M. Haponov

National Guardsman Volodymyr Haponov was killed on May 25, 2022, in battles for Sievierodonetsk. Volodymyr was born in the city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, where he lived his whole life. The man worked for himself - he was engaged in landscape design and construction. In his free time, he loved to fish. At 22, he married a girl named Oksana, whom he met in his teenage years. The couple raised children and built plans for life. When the full-scale war began, Volodymyr sent his family abroad and went to defend Ukraine and his native Donbas. Although he had never held a weapon in his hands before. The man, along with his brother-in-law, joined the special purpose battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine "Donbas". He told his wife that he was sad and wanted them to return home soon. That's what he fought for. Initially, Volodymyr's unit was in Sviatohirsk, Donetsk region, and later they went to defend Sievierodonetsk in Luhansk region. There, the defender was killed, having been in the army for less than a month. "They were shot. They were heavily shelled from the very beginning. They stayed there for a long time, there was no connection, little food, but they were told that no one would come to replace them. It was a terrible place. Volodymyr was knocked down after one of the shelling, his brother was injured, scattered debris, there was a concussion. They were heavily shelled," his wife Oksana told journalists. The serviceman was buried in the city of Dnipro. He left behind a wife, son, and daughter.
