According to the State Border Guard Service, on July 27, 2014, from 10:00 to 13:05 and from 13:30 to 14:45, a mortar and howitzer shelling of the "Dovzhansky" checkpoint in the Luhansk region was carried out. The fire was directed from the territory of Russia, with over 250 shells fired. As a result of the shelling, 4 border guards were killed and 2 were injured. One of the soldiers who was lucky to survive told a RIA journalist the details of the shelling: "At first, they were firing from 'Grad' systems. Then shells flew in that travel completely silently. We saw something like this for the first time. Everything was mixed with the ground. There were craters everywhere, the size of a person. Nothing was left of the checkpoint. I don't know what else they used, but we noticed that when a certain substance hit the boots, the shoes immediately fell apart. The paint also peels off the cars." According to the soldier, the wounded and the bodies of the dead were taken to the territory of Russia.
