- Reconnaissance officer Volodymyr Samitskyi was killed on June 5, 2023, in the area of Bilohrudyi Island in the Kherson region. In a battle with the occupiers, he covered the retreat of his comrades-in-arms and received fatal shrapnel wounds. The warrior was 61 years old. Volodymyr was born in the village of Chemerliieve, Mykolaiv region. In 1981, he graduated from the Myhiiv state farm technical school. From 1979 to 1992, he worked in agriculture. Since 1992, he has been in the law enforcement agencies. In 2006, he obtained a higher education at the Luhansk State University of Internal Affairs named after E.O. Didorenko. He went from a security officer at the Snihuriv district police department to the head of the district police department. During his service, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and was repeatedly awarded. In 2017, he retired. From the first days of the full-scale invasion, the man joined the ranks of the defenders. He served in the 123rd separate brigade of the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was part of a reconnaissance sabotage group and successfully carried out extremely complex combat missions. For this, he received the award of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Steel Cross" and an award from the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. "He served the people of Ukraine faithfully all his life. He had numerous awards from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and he had over 160 solved particularly serious criminal cases to his credit. In 2015, he was in the ATO zone as part of a reconnaissance sabotage group. From the first days of the full-scale war, he stood up to defend the country, although he was already of retirement age. He became an example, a teacher, and a mentor for many warriors," said the daughter of the deceased. Volodymyr was buried in the village of Nechaiany, Mykolaiv region. The defender is survived by his wife Valentyna, daughter Tetiana, and grandchildren Yevhen, Yehor, Bohdan, and Dariia.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
