- Captain Volodymyr Makohon died of a heart attack on December 6, 2022, while performing his official duties in the Lyman area of the Donetsk region. The officer was 51 years old. Volodymyr was born in the village of Biliky, Poltava region. In 1993, he graduated from the Faculty of Geology and Geography of Kharkiv State University. He settled in Chernihiv. He worked at the Chernihiv branch of the Ukrainian Geological Exploration Institute. In 2008, he defended his PhD thesis. In 2021, he entered the doctoral program of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He wrote about 90 scientific papers. For his high achievements, he was awarded the industry award "Honored Mineral Prospector". He taught at the National University "Poltava Polytechnic named after Yuri Kondratyuk". With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Volodymyr was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 66th Separate Mechanized Brigade. "Vova was very good, kind, and smart. It was impossible not to love him. He went to defend all of us in the summer of 2022, although as a scientist he did not have to do this. He died for us. He loved his native Biliky very much and came there for vacation every summer. He loved to swim in the Vorskla River and bake pies. He was fluent in French and English. Great hopes of Ukrainian geological science were associated with him," said the sister of the deceased, Victoria. "The war cut short the life of an outstanding geologist, his work on his doctoral dissertation, and his participation in a joint project with our scientists. These studies will be carried out, and the results will be dedicated to the memory of Volodymyr Makohon," said the Poltava Polytechnic. The officer was buried in Chernihiv. Volodymyr left behind a wife, son, sisters, and a brother. His mother could not bear it and died 21 days after his death.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
