Volodymyr V. Yakymenko (Pliemiash)

Junior Sergeant Volodymyr Yakymenko (call sign Plemyash) died on August 13, 2023 in the hospital from severe injuries sustained in combat with the enemy in the area of the village of Bohdanivka in the Donetsk region. He would have turned 36 years old on September 17. Volodymyr was born in the village of Khorly, Kherson region. In 2003, he graduated from the Khorly general secondary school of I-III degrees. Then he obtained the profession of a cook at the Chaplynsky Vocational Agricultural Lyceum. Until 2014, he worked abroad, and then - as a hired worker. He spent his free time with his family and children, whom he adored. He loved fishing. In 2017, the man went on a contract military service to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a serviceman of the 56th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade. He held the position of a grenade launcher in the 21st Separate Battalion "Sarmat". He participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation / Joint Forces Operation. With the start of the full-scale invasion, together with his comrades-in-arms, he continued to defend Ukraine from Russian invaders. For his combat merits, Volodymyr was repeatedly awarded, in particular with the medals "For Achievements in Military Service" of the III degree, "For Valorous Military Service to the Motherland", the distinctions "Steel Cross", "Golden Cross", "For Courage and Loyalty", "Badge of Honor". "He was a loving son, dad, husband, brother, true friend and comrade-in-arms," said the wife of the fallen warrior. The warrior was buried in the Alley of Glory of the Krasnopilsky cemetery in Dnipro. Volodymyr is survived by his mother Olha Petrivna, wife Kateryna, sons Mykhailo and Radion. The children were 8 and 3 years old at the time of their father's death, respectively.
