Volodymyr Ya. Tomchyshyn (Tom, Tomik)

Soldier Volodymyr Tomchyshyn was killed on October 29, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Berestove in the Kharkiv region. The warrior's life was cut short by enemy artillery fire. The defender was 44 years old. Volodymyr was born in the village of Zhvirka in the Lviv region. He studied at the Lviv State University of Internal Affairs. He worked in law enforcement and achieved the rank of captain. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting. He participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in Donbas. With the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion, Volodymyr joined the ranks of the territorial defense. He later became a fighter in the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a grenade launcher. His comrades called him Tom or Tomik. “Volodya was a military man his whole life. A good person. Since 2014, he had been in the combat zone. He died for Ukraine,” noted the deceased's ex-wife, Iryna. “A true patriot, a loyal son of Ukraine died from multiple severe wounds sustained during the artillery shelling. He gave his life for our Motherland, for the peaceful life of each of us. We must always remember the high price our soldiers pay for victory,” wrote the Sokalska City Council. The defender was buried in his native village. Volodymyr is survived by his mother Halyna Petriivna, son Yaroslav, and daughters Sofia and Melania.
