- Senior soldier Yaroslav Savchuk (call sign Sava) was killed on May 19, 2022 in the village of Veresnevе, Rivne region, where he was guarding an important object together with his comrades-in-arms. The 52-year-old fighter's heart could not withstand. Yaroslav was born in the city of Dubno, Rivne region. He graduated from the Dubno Higher Vocational School of Art. After military service, he entered the National University of Water Management and Nature Management. In his youth, he practiced judo and repeatedly won prizes in competitions. He loved reading from an early age. He said that after 1000 books, he stopped counting what he had read. In 2014, with the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Yaroslav went to defend Ukraine. At first, he served in the volunteer battalion "Dnipr-1", as part of which he took part in battles near Donetsk. Later, he signed a contract. He took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation / Joint Forces Operation. During his service, he was awarded the medals "Veteran of War", "Participant of the Anti-Terrorist Operation", "Iron Cross of the Anti-Terrorist Operation", "For Courage and Valor" and the badge "Duty Performed with Honor". During the full-scale war, Yaroslav Savchuk defended Ukraine in the ranks of the 130th separate reconnaissance battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "He was constantly at the forefront, and when he came on rotations, he helped volunteers. In peaceful life, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Dad was a man with a capital letter. Honest, kind, cheerful, sincere, cheerful. When he was gone, I lost both a father and a best friend," said the defender's daughter Natalia. The serviceman was buried in his hometown.
