Yehor O. Birkun (Bir)

Yehor Oleksandrovych Byrkun was born on August 9, 1997, in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region. He studied at Kryvyi Rih Scientific and Technical Lyceum No. 81. Later, he graduated from Kryvyi Rih National University. He was a mixed martial arts fighter. Since 2018, he served as a senior soldier and operator in the reconnaissance unit of the Special Forces Detachment "Azov" of the National Guard of Ukraine. At the time of the full-scale Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, he was in Kryvyi Rih, but by early March, he managed to reach the encircled Mariupol to support his comrades. As an artilleryman, after a few days, he had to switch to infantry. On March 22, 2022, he was wounded in the legs while attempting to assist a comrade. He died from blood loss, unable to apply a tourniquet. He was buried on August 8, 2022, at the Central Cemetery in Kryvyi Rih.
