- The 42-year-old soldier Yevhen Karleytov died in the hospital on May 28, 2024, from severe gunshot wounds. The warrior's last battle took place near the village of Novodarivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. Yevhen was born in the city of Lyubotyn in the Kharkiv region. After school, he served his mandatory military service. Then he worked in his hometown as a general laborer, loader, and market vendor. He lived with his mother and helped the family. He was a sociable person and enjoyed spending free time with friends. In 2021, he got a job at "Nova Poshta". "Zhenya went to this job with pleasure. He found the team pleasant and felt respected by his colleagues... He was very diligent at work, took his duties seriously, and tried to help everyone. His colleagues also loved him," says his mother Olena Anatoliivna. "Zhenya was loved by people, he was very kind and cheerful, talkative. He had many friends and acquaintances. Communication was his main hobby. He went out with friends to nature, to have barbecue. We have a beautiful region, where to go. Zhenya was a good father and uncle. Children ran to him like kittens. He also loved animals, even rescued and fed them when he had nothing." After the start of the full-scale war, Yevhen joined the Lyubotyn Territorial Defense Forces, serving there for a year. In early March 2023, he decided to transfer to a combat unit. He defended the country as part of the 127th separate brigade of the territorial defense. He held the position of senior rifleman-operator. He took part in battles near Bakhmut, Sumy, and on the border of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. "He didn't tell me anything about the war, he said: 'Mom, everything is fine.' When he died, no one said anything, not even the commander called. But the wounds were from bullets, so it was close combat. He didn't die immediately, they took him around hospitals and intensive care units in Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro. It was difficult, but the doctors fought for him. Zhenya died without regaining consciousness on May 28," says Olena Anatoliivna. The defender was buried in the village of Barchany in the Kharkiv region. Yevhen is survived by his mother, an 8-year-old son at the time of his death, and other relatives.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
