Yevhenii H. Kovaliov (Kundyl)

50-year-old Senior Sergeant Yevhen Kovalov (call sign Kundyl) was killed on March 5, 2023 in the hospital from severe injuries. In the battle for the city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region, he came under enemy artillery fire. The injuries proved to be too severe. Yevhen was from the village of Chervonohryhorivka, Dnipropetrovsk region. He studied at Zaporizhia Vocational School No. 20 and obtained the profession of a KVP adjuster. In peacetime, he worked for 20 years as an underground locksmith at the Marhanets Mining and Processing Plant. He was interested in radio electronics. During the full-scale war, the man defended his homeland in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since April 11, 2022, he served in the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh. He held the position of senior sapper in the engineer-sapper platoon. "He was strong, courageous and talented. The best son, husband and father, a faithful friend. He had many plans and dreams for the future. He wanted to wait for his retirement and putter around the garden, engage in radio electronics in his free time and wait for grandchildren," said the deceased defender's wife. Yevhen was buried in his native village. At home, he was awaited by his mother Valentyna, wife Tetiana, son Vladyslav and daughter Daria.
