Yurii A. Bun

24-year-old Senior Lieutenant Yurii Bun was killed in action on June 21, 2022, in battles in Luhansk region, covering the retreat of his subordinates. He was the commander of a company of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. Yurii was born in the city of Truskavets in Lviv region. The boy always dreamed of becoming a military man and after finishing school, he began to implement his dream in life. He graduated with honors from the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachny in Lviv. Later, as part of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade, he served in Luhansk region. During the years of the war, he first liberated cities in Donbas with a platoon, and later with a company, held defensive positions on the most responsible sections of the front in the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation/ Joint Forces Operation. A month before his death, in May 2022, Yurii Bun was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the III degree for exemplary performance of his duties. "We were all proud of Yurii Andriiovych, we looked up to him. He was the best among us, although he was so young. Thanks to his deep knowledge and skills, as well as his combat experience, he had an unquestionable authority among his subordinates and officers of the battalion. He was extremely attentive to our feelings and problems. We were impressed by his confidence in victory over the enemy. This confidence made us destroy the damned orcs with double force!", - one of his subordinates told about the commander. The defender was buried in his hometown in Lviv region. Yurii left behind his parents and fiancée.
