- Soldier Yuriy Kabanets (call sign Bazik) was killed on August 30, 2022, while rescuing a comrade near the village of Ridne in the Kharkiv region. The fighter did not live to see his 48th birthday. Yuriy was born and lived his entire life in Kyiv. He attended school No. 170. Then he served his mandatory military service. In peacetime, he worked with facades. He spent a lot of time with his loved ones. He loved active recreation. He was interested in military topics. During the full-scale war, Yuriy without hesitation joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend his native country from Russian invaders. He became a serviceman of the 30th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Kostiantyn Ostrozkyi. He held the position of a machine gun section commander. He took part in the liberation of Bucha and Irpin in the Kyiv region, then fought in the Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv regions. "My uncle was a brave man. I have never met such a sincere person. He tried to help everyone - both in peacetime and in wartime. He pulled out wounded guys, saved them, forgetting about his own life, because for him the most important thing was that those around him were alive and healthy, and he thought about himself last. He did not save himself. He was a faithful friend, a loving son and brother, a caring father. But he always told little about himself. When asked where he was and how he was doing, he always said: 'You don't need to know. I'm alive and doing well.' Yuriy went to voluntarily defend the Motherland, his family and friends from the first day of the full-scale invasion. He loved life, his country, his home and his family. They took away the most precious thing. They took away the heart of our family. My dear uncle, our support, whom we have lost," wrote the fallen warrior's niece Krystyna. The defender was buried at the Lisovyi Cemetery in Kyiv. Yuriy left behind a son, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews, friends and comrades-in-arms.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
