Yurii I. Korotkov

43-year-old Sergeant Yuriy Korotkov was killed on March 22, 2022, during the defense of Chernihiv. While on duty at the positions of Ukrainian defenders at the local cemetery "Yatsevo," the enemy struck there intentionally. "Yura evacuated us to a safe place on the first day of the great war. On the morning of March 22, he called and said he would go to the positions. Then he would rest and call again. But I never received that call. The next day, I called an acquaintance who was with him in the unit. He informed me that Yuriy was no longer with us," said his wife Raisa. Comrades evacuated the body of the man, and on March 25, he was buried at the old cemetery in the Zabarivka neighborhood. The car bridge had already been bombed, and the enemy was heavily shelling Chernihiv, so neither his wife nor daughter could come to say goodbye to Yuriy. Yuriy was born in Chernihiv. After school, he studied to become a carpenter. He worked in furniture manufacturing companies. He got married, and later a daughter was born in the family. Eventually, the family moved to the village of Novoselivka, on the outskirts of Chernihiv. They initially lived in a dormitory, and then Yuriy built a house with his own hands. During the Russian aggression in 2014, he fought in Eastern Ukraine. During the full-scale war, Yuriy returned to the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 1st Separate Tank Brigade. "Yuriy worked constantly, doing everything so that neither I nor our daughter would lack anything. He especially had no time for entertainment. He loved fishing very much, but he often didn't have the opportunity to go. He practically built our house on his own. But we only managed to live there for 2 years. Then the full-scale war began. Our house was destroyed on March 16, with a direct hit. And just a few days later, my husband was gone," Raisa recounted. Yuriy Korotkov is survived by his wife and daughter.
