Yurii M. Volynskyi

44-year-old border guard Yuriy Volynskyi was killed in September 2022. The defender was captured during the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the city of Shchastia in the Luhansk region. Later, the occupiers returned the body of the soldier. Yuriy was born in the Chernihiv region. He stuwas killed at Novhorod-Siverskyi Gymnasium No. 1. He loved nature and hiking in the woods, often going to collect mushrooms and berries in the outskirts of local forests. He was a person who enjoyed communication and being around others. He served in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. Since 2016, he had been carrying out combat missions in the ATO/JFO. When the full-scale war began, Yuriy was on rotation in the Luhansk region and continued to defend Ukraine from the occupiers. "A loving son, father, husband, friend, comrade... He defended us, our children, our mother Ukraine. Yuriy Volynskyi heroically was killed, remaining faithful to his oath until the end and fighting for a free, flourishing, and unyielding Ukraine," stated the Novhorod-Siverskyi city territorial community. The defender was buried in the village of Polyushkyne in the Chernihiv region. Yuriy is survived by his wife and two daughters.
