- 47-year-old Sergeant Yurii Shumliakivskyi (call sign Shum) was killed on June 19, 2022 near the village of Krasnopillia in the Donetsk region. While carrying out a combat mission to clear the area, the soldier fell into an enemy ambush. He received fatal injuries during a machine gun attack, covering his comrades. Yurii was born and lived in the village of Kolodyanka, Zhytomyr region. After graduating from the local high school, he obtained the profession of a zootechnician at the Rohachiv Vocational School. He worked in construction, which he enjoyed as he had a talent for it. He loved sports, especially football, and passed this passion on to his son, who continues his father's hobby. During the full-scale war, Yurii joined the ranks of the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade to defend Ukraine. Together with his comrades, he defended his native country from the occupiers on various hot fronts. "My Yurii was a very kind, cheerful person, always with a smile on his lips. Honest, selfless, sincere, courageous, a true patriot of his Motherland," his comrades said. A loving father, a faithful and gentle husband. "I noticed him back in school, took care of him for myself," he always said. In 1999, I became his loving wife. In a happy marriage, son Andrii, a copy of his father, and then daughter Anastasia, his father's joy and solace, were born. He always protected us. Recently, he constantly said: "Everything will be fine," "We are just beginning to live." We did everything together, holding hands tightly. He completely rebuilt the family home with his own hands. He loved his accordion very much, played beautifully, sang, danced, and was our spark of life," his wife Oksana shared. The paratrooper was buried in his native village. At home, he was awaited by his mother Antonina, wife Oksana, son Andrii, daughter Anastasia, and two sisters.
