Yurii O. Vietrov

Born on November 28, 1975, in the city of Sumy. Graduated from secondary school No. 19 (now named after M.S. Nesterovskyi) in the city of Sumy. Served mandatory military service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On September 5, 2014, mobilized into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Completed military training at the 169th Training Guards Zvenyhorodskyi Red Banner and Suvorov Center of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A0665, the urban-type settlement of Desna, Kozelets district, Chernihiv region). Since September 27, 2014, served in the 1st Territorial Defense Battalion "Volyn" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit field post V0116, Volyn region). Since the fall of 2014, participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. On November 15, 2014, during an artillery shelling by Russian-terrorist groups of a Ukrainian military checkpoint near the urban-type settlement of Olkhovatka, Yenakiieve City Council (now Bakhmut district) in Donetsk region, one of the shells hit the dugout where Senior Sergeant Vietrov was located. As a result of the explosion, the serviceman sustained a thigh injury and was evacuated by ambulance. On the way to the medical facility, Senior Sergeant Vietrov died from significant blood loss. On November 22, 2014, he was buried in the Alley of Honorable Citizens at the Central Cemetery of the city of Sumy. On February 19, 2016, by the order of the mayor of Sumy, Voroсhko Street was renamed Yurii Vietrov Street. On May 11, 2016, in the city of Sumy, a memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of secondary school No. 19 named after M.S. Nesterovskyi (I. Kharitonenka Street, 3), where Yurii Vietrov studied. In the city of Sumy, a memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of the building (Yurii Vietrov Street, 4), where Yurii Vietrov lived.
