Yurii V. Hrechyn (Hrek)

Senior soldier Yurii Hrechyn (call sign Greek) was killed on July 16, 2024 in the Sumy region. While performing his official duties, he suffered a fatal mine explosion injury. The defender was 34 years old. Yurii was born in the village of Nehrovets, Zakarpattia region. He graduated from Synevyr Secondary School of I-III levels. Since 2014, he lived with his family in the village of Berestovets, Chernihiv region. He worked as a lumberjack. He loved life and his family, to whom he dedicated his free time. In the first days of the full-scale war, the man joined the ranks of volunteers and stood up to defend his country. He served in the 119th separate brigade of the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a senior sapper of the engineering and sapper platoon of the 163rd battalion. "In this war, everyone who defends, helps to defend, and tries to help is a hero! Heroes never die! Glory to Ukraine!" - wrote the brother of the fallen Vasyl Hrechyn. Yurii was buried in the village of Berestovets, Chernihiv region. The defender is survived by his wife Nadiia, son Dmytro, daughter Sofiia, other relatives, friends, and comrades-in-arms.
