- Sergeant Yuriy Matviienko (call sign Chomba) was killed on May 16, 2022 near the village of Novoselyvka in the Donetsk region. While performing his official duties, he received a fatal explosive injury as a result of enemy artillery shelling. A month later, on June 15, the defender would have turned 47 years old. Yuriy was born and lived in the village of Solidarne, Luhansk region. He received secondary education. In civilian life, he worked as a builder. He devoted his free time to his family and loved ones. During the full-scale Russian invasion, the man defended his country in the ranks of the Air Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 25th Separate Airborne Brigade. He held the position of commander of a combat vehicle - commander of a parachute platoon. "Yuriy was a loving father and husband. He had a good heart, joked and had an insatiable thirst for life, was intelligent, fair, a courageous warrior, a patriot, and stood to the end in defense of the country," his wife Oksana said. The paratrooper was buried at the Krasnopilsky cemetery in Dnipro. Yuriy is survived by his mother, wife and daughter.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
