- Junior Lieutenant Yuriy Zgonnyk was killed on September 11, 2022, from numerous shrapnel wounds he received during enemy shelling near the village of Bezimenne in the Kherson region. The officer was 35 years old. Yuriy was born and lived in Kyiv. He studied at gymnasium No. 143. Then he graduated from the Faculty of Plant Protection of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine. He worked in his specialty in the capital. He was a well-rounded person, drove a car perfectly, and repaired it himself. He was passionate about gardening, cooked delicious dishes from shashlik to cheesecake. He was a jack-of-all-trades. He kept himself in good physical shape. During the full-scale Russian invasion, in June 2022, Yuriy became a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After training, he served in the ranks of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. He was the commander of a motorized infantry platoon. "Yura was an incredible person. He was kind, intelligent, humane, honest, non-conflictual, responsible, clever, strong, always ready to help. Cheerful, the soul of the company. He easily established contact with people, was a true friend, reliable and faithful, so knowledgeable in a wide variety of topics that it was amazing how one person could understand everything. Yura had the respect and trust of his loved ones. Both the commander and his comrades-in-arms spoke of him. In addition to everything, he proved himself courageous, brave, patient, and a true Hero. The closest and dearest person, we miss Yury very much... The unspeakable sadness and pain of the loss do not leave," said the deceased's older sister Natalia. The hero was buried at the Berkovetsky cemetery in Kyiv. Yuriy is survived by his parents, sister, wife, and daughter.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
