Sergeant Dmytro Halahan (call sign Jawa) was killed on June 15, 2023 near the village of Pryyutne in the Zaporizhzhia region. While performing a combat mission, he came under enemy fire and was fatally wounded. The warrior was 26 years old. Dmytro was born in Kyiv. He spent his early childhood in the Chernihiv region. He studied at school No. 170 in the capital. Then he graduated from the Kyiv College of Maritime and River Fleet. He was interested in the IT field, particularly 3D modeling. He also loved to read. After completing his military service, he decided to remain in the army and signed a contract in 2018. He served in the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilynsky. He participated in the Joint Forces Operation. At the time of the full-scale war, Dmytro held the position of commander of a flamethrower platoon. From the first days of the invasion, he, along with his comrades-in-arms, carried out combat missions on the front line. During his service, the soldier was awarded the badges "Golden Cross" and "For Excellence in Military Service" of the III degree. Dmytro's sister Darya said: "Dima was a very good person, he always helped everyone and was always smiling. When he was 17 years old, he participated in the Revolution of Dignity, but told his parents that he was going to study at the college. From childhood, he was interested in war: tanks, weapons, history. He went to war in 2018 and during this time he received two concussions: one in 2019 in the village of Shyrokyne, and the other in 2022, while liberating Kherson. Despite the severe concussion, he continued to go to war with the words: 'Why should other guys die, and I sit here?'. And at the age of 26, he was killed." The marine was buried in the village of Kobyzhcha in the Chernihiv region. At home, Dmytro was awaited by his mother, two younger sisters, and his beloved girlfriend.
