- 57-year-old border guard Anatoliy Nagornyi (call sign Sanich) died on November 16, 2023 during a direct confrontation with the enemy in the area of the village of Serhiivka in the Luhansk region. After clearing the forest strip, the Armed Forces of Ukraine captured the enemy's positions and consolidated there. But the occupiers began to counterattack. There were not enough fighters to hold back the Russian offensive, then Anatoliy, who was a gunner and was not supposed to go into the trenches, said to the commander: "Then why am I here?". This battle became his last. Anatoliy was born in the village of Radisne, Dnipropetrovsk region. He had two higher educations. The first one - a teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature, which he received at the Dnipro State University. He received the second education at the Yaroslav Mudryi Kharkiv State Law University. He lived with his family in the village of Menchykury, Zaporizhia region. For about 20 years he worked at the Veselovsky District Court of the Melitopol district, the last position - the head of the court. After the start of the full-scale invasion, the man was sent to serve at the Zhovtnevyi District Court in Dnipro. He had a deferment, but voluntarily joined the ranks of the defenders. Anatoliy became a fighter of the 15th Mobile Border Guard Unit of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. He held the position of a 2nd category border guard inspector - a gunner-operator. "My husband fulfilled his professional and moral duty to the end. Anatoliy was a person for whom Ukraine and its independence were above all else. He was an honest, honest person, a professional in his field, a loving husband, father and grandfather. Having such a rank (head of the court), a respectable age, the status of an internationalist warrior, with Afghanistan behind him, he went to defend the Motherland without hesitation and gave his life," said Tetyana Nahorna. Anatoliy was buried at the Krasnopilskyi cemetery in Dnipro. He is survived by his mother Kateryna Mykolaivna, wife Tetyana, son Viktor and daughter Oksana. Posthumously, Senior Sergeant Anatoliy Nagornyi was awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
