Andrii A. Stavnychyi (Did)

Senior soldier Andriy Stavnichy (call sign Grandfather) was killed on August 25, 2022, while performing a combat mission near the village of Paraskoviyivka in Donetsk region. The defender was 56 years old. Andriy was born in the city of Romny, Sumy region. He received secondary special education at a local vocational school. He served in the Ministry of Emergency Situations unit, and later worked as a turner. His last place of work was the company "Techno-Mash-Service". In his free time, he loved to fish and read. The man decided to go to the front even before the full-scale invasion. He signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 66th separate mechanized brigade. He was a mechanic-driver of a tank battalion. He fought in the area of the Joint Forces Operation. After February 24, 2022, together with his comrades, he continued to defend the Motherland from Russian occupiers. "My husband was the best turner in the city and a master of all trades. He mastered almost all construction professions. He wanted the best for his son and granddaughter. He wanted them to grow up and build their future in a free, independent state. Therefore, without waiting for a summons, he went to defend the Motherland without hesitation. He justified his actions with just three words: 'I am needed there'," said Valentyna Stavnichy. The hero was buried in the central cemetery of his hometown. He is survived by his mother, brother, wife, son, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law. Posthumously, Andriy Stavnichy was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the III degree.
