Andrii O. Orlovskyi

24-year-old soldier Andrii Orlovskyi (call sign Gustav) died on September 24, 2024 near the city of Vuhledar in Donetsk region. In the battle with the occupiers, he received fatal injuries during a mortar shelling. Andrii was born in the city of Lyman, Donetsk region. In 2017, he graduated from Lyman Gymnasium. He was passionate about football and participated in competitions for the local youth sports school. Since childhood, he was a fan of the Shakhtar (Donetsk) team. Since 2018, he lived in Uzhhorod, Zakarpattia region, where he studied and worked. There, he was drafted into the 101st Brigade of the General Staff Protection. With the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Andrii voluntarily defended his country. He fought as part of the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Zakarpattia Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He held the position of gunner in the motorized infantry platoon of the 4th motorized infantry battalion "Bears". He defended the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk directions. In March 2024, he was wounded and received the award "For Wound". "Andrii was truly a very brave person not only in war, but also in life, he made very responsible and well-considered decisions, not looking back at possible difficulties and outside opinions. He dreamed of settling and living in a picturesque place in the Ukrainian Carpathians," his father Oleksii said. The defender was buried at the Forest Cemetery in Kyiv. Andrii is survived by his parents and brother.
